|VOAD stands for Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster. We are a group of voluntary and non-governmental agencies that collaborate during responses to disaster. VOAD is designed to bring together voluntary religious and civic organizations which function in times of natural or man-made emergencies within the Commonwealth of Virginia in order to foster more effective response for people affected by disaster.|
Hurricane Sandy Relief and Recovery Efforts
Virginia was fortunate to have missed the brunt of the impact from Hurricane Sandy. However, many of our member organizations are active in relief and recovery efforts in the northeast region of the country.
If you are looking to volunteer your time, or have donations of funds, goods or other resources that you are trying to get to those in need, we recommend the following two sources:
The Points of Light Foundation is helping to manage unafflilated volunteers (HandsOn Network Volunteer Centers Activated/Points of Light Disaster Volunteer Opportunity Page)
The Virginia Department of Emergency Management ESF-17 (Volunteer & Donations Management) has set up an email address that you can contact, and they will help match you with Emergency Managers from New York, New Jersey or other states in need. That email address is firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you for thinking of others in this great time of need.
